A 44-year-old Haslington woman, who is a housewife, was charged today for alleged acts of terrorism, in relation to the protests against the Police back in 2022 and the looting of stalls at Mon Repos.
The accused, Robin Simon, was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of Acts of terrorism. She appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court and was granted bail in the sum of $250,000.
She has been asked to return to Court on the 28th March for the continuation of the case.
A wanted bulletin had been issued by the Police for the woman.
A number of other persons have been slapped with the similar charge related to the protests and the related events.
The protests were triggered by the Police gunning down of a Haslington youth during a sting operation gone bad.
The youth was accused of attempting to sell a weapon to an undercover cop. He was gunned down from behind as he attempted to run away from the undercover police officers. A policeman was charged for the crime and is currently still before the Courts.
There were several days of protests.
On one day, some Mon Repos vendors were forced to flee their stalls as they were attacked and some of their properties destroyed and looted.
The Opposition APNU, has called out the Government and the Police over charging the suspects with acts of terrorism.
