Jagdeo apologises to Berbice family after dead mother’s name appear on PPP candidate’s nomination documents

The daughter of a dead Berbice woman whose identity and forged signature were used on nomination documents for a PPP candidate in the upcoming local government elections received an apology today from Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo.

In a Facebook post, the daughter, Joanna Jacob, said the Vice President reached out to her and offered his apologies today following her earlier post on Facebook about her mother’s signature being forged in supporting documents for a PPP candidate in the upcoming elections.

“The matter was dealt with. Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo himself called and apologized to the family. Thank you, Sir”, the young woman remarked in a Facebook post.

She also said her father’s signature was also forged on the documents for the PPP candidate.

“This is not okay with me, that’s just straight up disrespectful to her family, like we can’t even mourn our mom’s death in peace”, the young woman remarked on Facebook in her original post, before the Vice President contacted her.

The mother, Cherryl Jacob, passed away on the 6th April, yet her name and a forged signature were found affixed to nomination documents for a PPP Candidate in one of the constituency races for the local elections.

The daughter has also issued a call on the APNU Member of Parliament who highlighted the forged signature on his social media page, to remove her mother’s funeral programme from his page.

The Opposition APNU, has accused the PPP of submitting several nomination documents with forged signatures to the Elections Commission, describing it as complete fraud.

A number of persons who have spotted their names on nomination documents for the PPP have since written to the Elections Commission indicating that they never signed any nomination document and also never provided any permission for their names to be used on nomination documents for any party.
