The main Political parties that will be contesting the elections are now expected to step up their campaigning as they turn the final stretch to the May 11 elections.
The parties handed in their list of candidates on Tuesday as part of the nomination day process.
The PPP Civic’s list has seen the return of former President Bharrat Jagdeo as a candidate although he assured that he was not going to be a candidate and was not interested in any elected position.
The PPP’s list also includes businessman and owner of the German’s restaurant Clinton Urling along with a number of current government Ministers and their children and relatives. President Ramotar, whose son Alexi is also on the list, said he is convinced that the list is a winning one for the PPP
After handing in his party’s list of candidates to the Guyana Elections Commission for the May 11 polls, President Donald Ramotar declared that he is confident of victory.
The President told reporters that as the countdown continues to Elections Day, the campaign will be intensified. He noted that the list is representative of all the people of Guyana and that’s one of the messages that the campaign will be taking across the country.
With hundreds of supporters waving the party’s colours, PPP Leaders marched from their Robb Street headquarters to the City Council to officially formalize the party’s participation in the elections. President Ramotar led the way was accompanied by his wife and his Prime Ministerial Candidate Elisabeth Harper and her husband.
PPP General Secretary Clement Rohee told News Source that he had a “great” feeling about the list of candidates that was handed in by his party.
He said with him currently serving in the position of General Secretary, it could only mean that the PPP will be winning the upcoming elections. Mr. Rohee’s daughter, Rima Rohee-Paul is also a candidate on the list.
