New York-based Guyanese wants name and “forged” signature removed as nominator on PPP Candidate’s list

A Guyanese man who has been living in the United States for the past six years is calling on the People’s Progressive Party to remove his name as a nominator for one of its candidates in the upcoming local elections, since he never nominated anyone and never signed any document related to the elections.

25-year-old Njaisane Alexander, said he was left confused and shocked when one of his friends in Guyana contacted him after noticing his name on the PPP list of candidates as a nominator for a West Coast Berbice candidate in the upcoming elections.

Before migrating to the US, Alexander lived in Hopetown, West Coast Berbice.

Speaking to News Source from New York, where he now calls home, Mr. Alexander said he was last in Guyana two years ago and has never been the holder of a Guyana national identification card. He said he migrated at the age of 19 along with his family.

“I have no knowledge of this. I never signed anything or knew anything about this until my friend told me about it”, Alexander said.

In addition to carrying the man’s name on the candidate nomination document, a national identification number and a signature that he said was forged, are also attached.

The young man’s father, James Victor Mars, in a Facebook post explained that while an application was made for his son to get an identification card while he was in his teens, he never received one since he migrated before it was ever issued.

The father said he wants his son’s name removed from the list since he was not in Guyana recently and never signed any document.

The Opposition APNU has accused the governing PPP of forging several signatures for persons as nominators on many of its various lists of candidates for the upcoming elections, especially in the Berbice region.

Some persons have filed Police complaints after noticing their names and forged signatures on various PPP nomination lists.

Last Friday, PPP General Secretary Bharrat Jagdeo, was forced to issue an apology to a Berbice family after their dead mother’s name and a forged signature appeared on a PPP candidate’s list as a nominator for a Berbice candidate in the upcoming elections.

The Opposition is calling on the Police and the Elections Commission to act on the complaints.
