Jamaican remanded to prison for cocaine in socks and lotion

A Jamaican national who travelled to Guyana for a vacation will now be spending the rest of his time in the country behind bars after he was busted at Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport with a quantity of cocaine. He has been identified as 20-year-old Richard Daniels.

The illegal substance which weighed just over 2 pounds, was found in two and a half pairs of socks and in two bottles of skin lotion which were in the man’s suitcases. He was busted by agents from the Narcotics Branch of the Guyana Police Force at the airport as he was preparing to board a Fly Jamaica flight back home.

The bust took place early on Tuesday morning and Daniels was placed before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where he was denied bail and remanded to prison.

The Jamaican is being represented by Attorney Peter Hugh.

Police investigators are following a number of leads in the latest drug bust at the airport and are looking to identify persons who may have brought the man to Guyana for the drug trafficking purpose.
