A smash-up on the East Coast Demerara at Lilliendaal has claimed the lives of the owner of the Kosmos Restaurant and Grill, Dillon DeRamos and his friend, Police Senior Superintendent Brian Eastman.

According to eyewitnesses, DeRamos was the driver of the Lexus SUV heading towards Georgetown from along the East Coast when he swerved from a vehicle that was speeding past him and lost control.

The vehicle flipped several times before slamming into a concrete fence just outside Yokohoma Auto sales.

DeRamos who is a father of two died on the spot while passersby were able to pull the passenger, Brian Eastman from the vehicle.

He was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital but was pronounced dead.

The two men were pinned in the vehicle for several minutes before emergency services arrived. It is believed that the two had just left DeRamos’ business place which is located at MovieTowne along the same East Coast road.

DeRamos only returned to Guyana last weekend and was scheduled to head back out this week.

A police probe is underway.
