
23-year-old Lindener, Kellon Sumner, lost his life tragically early on Saturday morning when the motorcycle he was riding collided with an SUV that was being driven by Lt. Colonel Courtney Mendonca of the Guyana Defence Force.
The incident occurred at around 1:40am on Saturday.
In a statement this morning, the Guyana Police Force said based on preliminary investigations, the motor vehicle that was being driven by the military officer was proceeding south along Burnham Drive, Wismar and in the process of negotiating a right turn, the motorcyclist who was proceeding north along the same road at an alleged fast rate crashed into the left side front door of the vehicle.
The young motorcyclist was pitched onto the roadway. He sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination is to be performed on the body.
News Source understands that a breathalyzer test was conducted on the military officer, and his blood alcohol level was found to be above the legal limit.
The Police said the driver was taken into custody.
