Little Diamond teenager drowns during family visit to Linden creek

A family outing to Linden on Sunday turned into tragedy after 17-year-old Nazana Samaroo of Little Diamond Squatting Area, lost her life by drowning.

The young girl was in the company of her mother, foster father and siblings during a visit to a creek in the mining town on Sunday.

According to a Police statement, the 17-year-old and her 8-year-old brother ventured into the water to take a swim.

The brother raised an alarm after the teenager disappeared under the water while attempting to swim across the creek.

The Police said a frantic search by relatives was able to locate the girl’s body and bring it ashore. She was rushed to the Linden Hospital where the doctor on duty pronounced her dead on arrival.

The Police said there were no marks of violence on her body. A post-mortem examination is to be conducted to officially determine the cause of death.
