Teen boys die in separate drowning incidents in Berbice and Linden

Two teenage boys lost their lives in separate drowning incidents on Sunday in two different parts of the country.

In Orealla village in the Corentyne River, Berbice, 14-year-old Nathaniel Nelson died early on Sunday morning while playing with relatives and friends in a creek.

A police report said while the Line Path Secondary school student was having a fun time in the creek, he started to encounter difficulties and disappeared under the water.  His body was found more than an hour later and he was pronounced dead after being rushed to the Orealla Health Centre.

On Sunday afternoon in Linden, a 13-year-old who left his home and ventured to the Bucktown Creek in the company of two young friends lost his life while swimming.

A Police report stated that the linden youth, Anthony Gordon was seen running into the creek as he played with his 14-year-old and 10-year-old friends.  A short while after, an alarm was raised after his friends said he vanished under the water.

Other persons in the area rushed into the water and started a search operation.

The young boy, who attended the Christianburg Wismar Secondary School, was found at the bottom of the creek about two hours later and rushed to the Linden Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

In both cases, the Police said post mortem examinations will be conducted on the bodies.
