34-year-old Guyanese swimmer, Robert Taylor who was on vacation in New Jersey, lost his life on Monday morning when he was mowed down by a car while using a pedestrian crossing.

Police responded to a report of the crash at around 7 a.m. at the in the Freehold town in New Jersey.

According to media reports, an elderly female driver going south in the right lane of Route 9 struck the man down. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured, police said.

The incident is under investigation by authorities with the Freehold Township Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

In Guyana, Taylor was attached to the Sharks Swimming Club.
