Man and girlfriend gunned down in Sophia

The two were rushed to the Georgetown Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead. The man was shot more than six times to the body while the woman was shot four times.

A 26-year-old Sophia man and his girlfriend who was visiting the country from Barbados were shot dead late last night in Sophia as they headed to the man’s house.

According to initial reports, the two were on a motorcycle when they came under a hail of gunfire as they crossed a bridge in B’ Field, Sophia.

The dead man has been identified as Daniel Fraser, who celebrated his birthday on Monday. The girlfriend has been identified as Shanicka Forde.

The two were rushed to the Georgetown Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead. They were both shot multiple times to their bodies.

A Police report said the shooting was carried out by a bicycle-riding gunman. He has been identified to the Police by eyewitnesses. Searches are ongoing for him.

Investigators are treating the double murder as an execution although no motive has been determined as yet.

The murdered young man was a member of the Guyana Defence Force. His girlfriend who was also gunned down was expected to return to Barbados today and had plans of joining the Barbados Defence Force.

The dead man’s mother, Michelle Fraser said the double murder has left her shocked and confused with more questions than answers.

In the past few months, there has been an increase in violent gun crimes and murders in the Sophia community.
