Miner dies in Pomeroon boat accident

Police investigators in the Pomeroon area are probing a fatal boat accident that occurred in the wee hours of this morning at Grand Friendship Canal, Lower Pomeroon River.

The accident involved a wooden boat that was propelled by a 40 horsepower outboard engine. 

The boat was being operated by 27-year-old gold miner, Dennon Lyte.

The lone passenger, 25-year-old Renny France died in the accident.

The duo was reportedly en route to their homes in Grand Friendship when the boat collided with a tree that had fallen into the canal.

Both the operator and passenger were pitched overboard and suffered multiple injuries.

Persons who live in the area and heard the collision rushed to the aid of the two young men.

They were pulled from the canal and rushed to the hospital in the area, where France was pronounced dead while the operator was admitted in a serious condition.

The body of France was taken to the Suddie Funeral Parlor and is awaiting a post mortem.
