Police investigators are probing yet another murder in the mining district.
A miner was stabbed to death on Saturday night at Issanno in the Mazaruni river during an argument over a pack of cigarettes.
According to a police report, the miner, Quincy Jones was at a shop with some other men consuming alcohol when he got into an argument with another man over some cigarettes and the man stabbed him to the chest.
He was rushed to the Bartica hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The suspect has since been arrested. Charges are likely early this week.
Last year, saw a steep increase in murders and other violent crimes in the gold mining communities across Guyana.
