A 24-year-old Guyanese woman is in the custody of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit after she was busted at the Ogle International Airport with just over 2 pounds of cocaine in her suitcase.
The woman was preparing to board a LIAT flight to Barbados at the Ogle airport when agents of CANU decided to examine the one suitcase she had in her possession.
The cocaine was found stashed in the false sides of the suitcase and the woman was immediately arrested and taken to CANU headquarters for more questioning.
It is believed that the trip would have been her first trip abroad. She worked in Georgetown but is originally from the Bartica community. Investigators are examining a number of persons that the woman may have been in recent contact with just before getting ready to head out on her vacation.
Liat operates daily flights between Georgetown and Bridgetown. Just recently, there were two busts in Barbados of persons who travelled to the island from Guyana.
