A 36-year-old miner who recently returned from the interior to his East Bank Demerara home to register his newborn baby was stabbed to death during a robbery attack on Thursday evening.
The dead man has been identified as Nelson Thomas.
A police report on the incident stated that after returning from the interior yesterday midday, the miner left his home last evening to visit an uncle.
The Police said a resident in the Kaneville area heard someone calling out for him and when he investigated, he saw the miner lying motionless at the side of his yard.
The man immediately contacted the Police. The miner was taken to the Diamond Hospital where Doctors pronounced him dead. Stab wounds were noticed on his body and the Police suspect that he was stabbed to death during a robbery.
A full investigation is underway.
