Missing man suspected murdered, wife wants closure

A worried wife is hoping, against the odds, for the safe return of her husband who went missing 10 days ago in the North Fork area in Region #7, Cuyuni Mazaruni where he had gone to work.

Forty seven-year- old Shawn Clarke left his North Street, Georgetown home on June 15 to travel to the area where he laboured as a miner.

His wife, Rushell Clarke said she last spoke to her husband two weekends ago when he made arrangements with her to collect a package of food stuff she had sent for him.

“Since then , no one has seen or heard from him and neither did he collect the package,” the distressed woman told News Source on Tuesday.

He had reportedly contacted the driver of the mini bus and made arrangements to collect the package at Madhia but never showed up.

The woman said she received a call from the police earlier in the day and was informed that her husband’s body was reportedly sighted.

“But I got another call and they told me that by the time the police get there someone tried to burn the evidence… some of his personal items was also burned,” she added.

She said the police had a man by the name of Marlon in custody and was questioning several other persons in the area.

She explained that based on what her husband’s friends told her, he was last seen with Marlon.

“Everybody was taking this thing as a joke until Sunday then everybody start taking it serious… and people recall seeing him with Marlon the night and that was the last time he was seen.”

The woman said that she is yet to receive confirmation from the police that the body was her husband.

“Its very uneasy. I accept death but I need closure…”

The two had been married for 12 years.
