The mother of a 15-year-old Guyanese born, U.S resident who was held at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport last Friday with cocaine in the handles of his suitcases, was on Tuesday charged for drug trafficking and remanded to prison.

Forty one-year-old Colda Towler was charged along with a male relative, 20-year-old Ian Griffith.

The duo from East La Penitence appeared before Magistrate Lerone Daly and were remanded until September 13 as police investigators continue their probe.

Towler’s Attorney admitted that she along with Griffith packed the suitcases which were borrowed from a friend.
They denied that they were aware that cocaine was concealed in the handles of the suitcases.

The 15-year-old boy was traveling alone and was about to board an Eastern Airlines flight back to the United States when the bust took place.

News Source understands that that the teenager was surprised when investigators approached him and asked him to identify his suitcases, since he should not have been traveling with any suitcases.
