Mother & Daughter Pageant returns on May 7

After a two-year absence owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, one of Guyana’s premier family events, the Mother and Daughter Pageant is returning to the stage of the National Cultural Centre on the 7th May.

This year will mark the 29th edition of the pageant which was founded by Educator Ms. Ingrid Fung, but is now hosted under the Supa Stylistics brand.

This year’s event is receiving the support of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport, GTT, Chung’s Global and Mohamed’s Enterprise.

At a launching ceremony this afternoon, Co-ordinator Ms. Ingrid Fung said she is pleased to see the return of the pageant following all of the uncertainty that gripped the nation during the past years of the pandemic.

“It was hard, and our patrons were really pushing us, but what can you?  Our hands were tied. We were thinking about our safety and our health, our lives. So, as soon as we were aware that we can get that type of opening, mind you, we were thinking of something virtual, but then we were wondering how will that be. We needed an audience, we need applause and we were wondering but now the time is here and now we will deliver.”

She added that with the return of the Mother and Daughter pageant, patrons will be part of something good.

That good, according to the other organizer, Dr Sulan Fung, will focus on the opening of the space to support the growth of the family and family support.

“We realized that Mothers and Daughters are nothing without their families, so we actually push family hood. So, the entire family will come out to support the Mothers and Daughters. And, we also have a segment in the show where we honour other members of the family”, Dr Fung explained.

The pageant features three categories with the Junior Category being sponsored by GTT and the Middle and Senior categories receiving the support of the Chung’s Global company.

The pre-pageant red carpet event will be hosted and sponsored by Mohammed’s Enterprise.

Additionally, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport is lending its full support to the event.

Tickets are already on sale for the event at the National Cultural Centre.
