National Assembly approves estimates for Constitutional Agencies

Just after the swearing in of the new Members of Parliament, the National Assembly passed a total sum of $11.2 Billion for the Constitutional agencies, allowing those agencies to continue their work for the rest of the year.

The approved funds cover sixteen constitutional agencies including the Parliament of Guyana Office, the Auditor General’s Office, the various Service Commissions and the Guyana Elections Commission.

The Elections Commission received the largest piece of the pie with close to $5 Billion being approved for it to continue its work.

Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill presented the estimates to the National Assembly on behalf of the Ministry of Finance.

The estimates were passed unopposed and unchanged.

The APNU+AFC walked out of the National Assembly just before the estimates were presented. They reportedly left in protest of the selection of Lenox Shuman as Deputy Speaker and some other issues.

However, they gathered for a meeting of their members in one of the conference rooms at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre where the Parliamentary sittings will be taking place.
