Nearly 6000 active cases of COVID-19 in Guyana

On Sunday, the Ministry of Health announced that 657 new cases of the virus had been recorded, which was coming 24 hours after another 1016 new cases were recorded.

There are now nearly 6000 active cases of COVID-19 in Guyana as the number of positive cases continues to soar.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Health announced that 657 new cases of the virus had been recorded, which was coming 24 hours after another 1016 new cases were recorded.

Region Four continues to see the biggest spread of new cases with more than half of new cases being recorded daily being found in the region.

Regions Three, Six and Ten are also seeing spike in their new cases.

The death toll from the virus has also been climbing steadily with three deaths added on Sunday to take the overall death toll to 1,070.

Guyana is still to officially confirm the presence of the Omicron variant in the country, but Health Officials have said based on the sudden increase and spread in new cases, it has become clear that the new variant is present in Guyana.

Persons are being encouraged to get fully vaccinated. There are over 100,000 persons still to return to the Ministry of Health for their second dose vaccine shots.
