President Irfaan Ali joined the Chairman of the ANSA McAL Group of Companies, Norman Sabga, and Managing Director of ANSA McAL Distribution Inc Guyana, Troy Cadogan today to turn the sod for a US$60 Million Chateau Margot Mall.
The Chateau Margot Mall, which will be built adjacent to the historic Chateau Margot Chimney, will feature a mix of retail stores, and dining and entertainment centres from global brands to local businesses.
According to ANSA McAL, the mall will offer everything from fashion and lifestyle to fine dining, cafes, cinemas and entertainment zones for the whole family.
President Ali said the construction of the mall represents the confidence that investors have in Guyana, and its economic climate.
“This is not a charity project. This project is a forward looking investment that recognizes that Guyana is going places, and ANSA McAL wants to be part of this journey. This is what this project means. The decision to build is a vote of confidence in our people, in our economy, and in the bright future that lies ahead for this region and for Guyana as a whole. It says to me that ANSA McAL has projected increase and sustained spending power, and the growth of the commercial sector, and it is making an investment today for tomorrow’s future,” the President said.
He said the mall will generate jobs, and create opportunities for businesses to flourish, while providing visitors with an opportunity to experience a taste of Guyana.
“A mall brings together multiple businesses, it create jobs during construction and operation, stimulates surrounding businesses, attracts new services and provides a place where people can go and relax, do shopping, having a meal, and spend time with family and friends, while all at the same time adding to the tourism product of our country,” the President said.

The President also challenged ANSA McAL to create a ‘One Guyana Strip’ that celebrates the Chateau Margot Chimney while providing a space for small businesses, including women-led businesses, to operate, as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
The Ansa McAL Chairman, Norman Sabga, said the multi-million US dollar project represents a significant milestone for the Trinidad headquartered company, which has been in Guyana for over 30 years.
“Spanning 110,000 square feet of leasable space, this mall will be a modern lifestyle centre – a place to shop, work dine, and be entertained. We envision a vibrant and inclusive environment that brings friends and families together – one that promotes healthy social interaction, celebrates innovation and embraces sustainable practices. By doing so, we aim to attract visitors, boost trade and uplift the region’s economic activity,” Sabga said.
He said the development of the project is testament to the celebration of regional expertise and local collaboration, with the creation of spaces that enhance the lives of people.
The Managing Director of ANSA McAL Guyana said the mall will be a dynamic space for commerce, culture and community, as ANSA McAL continues to invest in Guyana and its people, while creating much needed jobs.

Building on the foundation laid, Cadogan said the mall will create additional jobs, and provide local businesses with an opportunity to expand their base.
“For decades, ANSA McAL has stood proudly in Guyana – investing in various businesses, creating jobs, and building brands that have become part of our everyday lives. This project is another chapter in that legacy, reaffirming our commitment to be more than just a business but a true partner in national development. This mall will not only transform the East Coast corridor into a hub of activity and opportunity, but also demonstrate how the private sector can work hand in hand with government and communities to build a brighter, more prosperous Guyana,” Cadogan said.

Amid concerns that the construction of the mall could infringe on the site of the the historic Chateau Margot Chimney, both Cadogan and Sabga assured that the chimney would be preserved, and would continue to inspire and educate future generations.

The mall will be constructed by Zhongshe Construction and Engineering, and it is expected to be completed within 15 to 18 months.
