A newborn baby was found dead in a garbage receptacle at a waste disposal site at Orange Walk, Bourda this afternoon. The discovery was made by a vagrant, who sounded an alarm. Police investigators were called in.

City Council worker, Ackeem Austin, told News Source that he was at work at the waste disposal site when a vagrant raised the alarm while going through the garbage.

“A junkie come at the said time to tumble the bin because them junkie does come and tumble the bin fuh check the bin and see what them could find. So, the man come and said watch, watch, y’all come see what deh in this bin here. Who bring this bin here. So, when the man come and tell we, we come and check it and we see a baby in the bin,” Austin said.

According to Austin, the vagrant who took the bin to the location indicated that he brought it from the Merriman’s Mall.

Another waste collector, Asquith Smith, said the waste bin was brought from the Merriman’s Mall area and there was no one else who handled it before it was moved across to Orange Walk.

“Since I tek over, no garbage in throw inside deh you know. But when the man do so, and tumble the bin, he see what going on on-top. The man call we, when we go, we see is a baby. Everybody that come with garbage we tell throw in them bins and the big one,” Smith explained.

He explained that a power outage in the area had prevented the sanitation workers from emptying the garbage from the smaller bins in the larger receptacle. The waste is then taken to the Haags Bosch Landfill Facility, the workers explained. 

Crime scene investigators are currently on the scene conducting their probe.
