Local Government Ministry places several bins along Kitty Seawall to encourage proper garbage disposal

The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has launched a “targeted sanitation initiative” along the Kitty Seawall, with the placement of waste bins aimed at promoting proper garbage disposal and enhancing the cleanliness of the area.

The Kingston and Kitty Seawall have been areas prone to unsightly garbage disposal over the years, with the authorities and private groups being forced to host almost regular clean-up campaigns.

On Friday, the Local Government Ministry placed several large waste bins in various sections of the seawall, hoping to get persons to properly dispose of their waste while enjoying the recreational activities in the area.

The Ministry said the initiative forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen waste management systems and encourage responsible public behavior in high-traffic recreational spaces.

The bins will be serviced and cleaned on a daily basis to ensure continued usability and hygiene, according to the Ministry.

Citizens are being encouraged to make full use of the newly installed bins as part of a collective effort to eliminate littering, as the Ministry has emphasized that public cooperation is essential in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment along the seawall.

The Ministry has also reminded the public that surveillance cameras are installed along the Kitty Seawall, and will be used to identify individuals who engage in littering.
