Norton denies sexual harassment allegations; Initiates legal action against social media commentator

Opposition Leader and Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, Aubrey Norton has denied, that he has sexually harassed or made sexual advances towards longstanding party member, Vanessa Kissoon.

Mr. Norton’s statement came days after a supporter of one of the other candidates seeking the leadership of the PNC Reform made the allegations in a Facebook post, which has attracted a lot of debate among party supporters and others.

In the post by US based Guyanese, Egland Gomes, it was alleged that sometime ago, Norton made sexual advances towards the former Member of Parliament while the two were in a vehicle traveling from Georgetown to Linden.

Mr. Norton said there was never any such trip that ever took place, and he has made any such advances.

He said the allegations are malicious.

“At no time, Vanessa Kissoon and I were in any vehicle alone heading to Linden. All of these claims are false and malicious. I wish to call on Sharma Solomon and Vanessa to speak to this issue, since failure to do so, will suggest that they are complicit in this false and malicious post,” Mr. Norton stated.

The PNC Leader said he sees the allegations as part of a wider political plot, as his party’s congress and elections draw near.

Mr. Norton said he has never been involved in the sexual assault of any person. He said the longstanding party member who was named in the social media post as the alleged victim, needs to break her silence and address the “falsehood”.

Mr. Norton said he has since instructed his lawyers to take legal action against the person responsible for the social media post.
