One Venezuelan national sentenced to six years in jail following guilty plea on illegal gun and drug charges; Alleged accomplices remanded

One of the three Venezuelan men who was nabbed in Region One with guns, ammunition and drugs has pleaded guilty to the charges related to the possession of illegal firearms and drugs, and has been sentenced to six years in jail.

The Venezuelan national identified as Elizer Vera is the one who opted to plea guilty during his Court appearance today, while the other two, Romel Marin and Alirio Jemenez pleaded not guilty and were remanded to jail.

All three faced charges of Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Firearm without a license (2 Beretta pistols and a Glock pistol) and Possession of Ammunition without a license (25 matching rounds)

The matter was heard today at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court # 6 before Magistrate D. Bess.

The case against the two accused who pleaded not guilty will continue on the 13th November.

The three men were arrested on Friday by Police ranks in Arakaka, North West District, after they were alerted to the presence of the three armed men in a shop.

The men were picked up by a resident in the area and it was at that resident’s home that the Police nabbed the men and made the discovery of the guns, ammunition and drugs. They were all immediately arrested.
