Over 130 households affected by freak storm benefit from relief and repair -Works Ministry

More than 130 households and Government buildings across the Essequibo that were affected by last week’s freak storm have benefited from repairs and other relief efforts, according to the Ministry of Works.

Last Wednesday’s storm saw roofs being blown off of buildings and utility poles falling, resulting in major damages.

In a statement, the Works Ministry explained that relief efforts commenced on just after the storm passed and have been continuing.

The operation included damage assessments, the distribution of roofing materials and the completion of emergency roof repairs across several communities.

Speaking on the impact of the initiative, Minister within the Ministry of Works, Madanlall Ramraj said priority has been given towards ensuring the repair works are completed within a short space of time.

Minister Ramraj noted that interacting with residents throughout the operation has reinforced the significance of the initiative.

The operation was supported by Regional officials, ranks of the Guyana Defence Force’s Infantry Battalion and 4 Engineer Battalion, Guyana Police Force recruits and volunteers.

As recovery works continue, the Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every affected resident receives the necessary support, while restoring homes, public infrastructure and essential services across Region Two.
