The Ministry of Finance has announced that some $42.5 Billion has already been distributed in the $100,000 cash grant initiative since it started in March.

In a release from the Finance Ministry, Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh explained that the distribution process has been continuing smoothly with more citizens receiving the grant since the last update was provided.

It was noted that back in March, 48,858 Central Government employees’ public servants, teachers and members of the Disciplined Services received their cash grants amounting to $4.9 billion.

The Finance Minister noted that since the launch of the online portal at the end of March, 279,546 persons successfully completed self-registration and have since received their cash grants while another 4,053 persons are at various stages of this self-registration process.

The Finance Minister stated that some 328,404 persons were so far paid the grant directly to their bank accounts.

The Finance Ministry noted that the Government also facilitated registration of persons in far flung areas and hinterland communities who had no access to banking facilities, did not have a bank account or were shut ins, in shelters, hostels, and Senior Citizen homes around the country.

These persons, according to the Finance Ministry, were registered by Government teams and were subsequently processed for cheque payments.

The total number of persons across the country in these categories who were processed for cheque payments total 96,277.

“Conclusively, the Minister noted that the total number of persons processed for the National Cash Grant to date is 424,681 persons equivalent to $42.5 billion,” the release noted.

The Finance Ministry is encouraging persons who have not yet registered for the grant to do so at their convenience.
