The Government has announced that with effect from the month of July, National Insurance Scheme pension payment and the old age pension payment will be paid on the same day, further reducing the burdens of the country’s senior citizens.
Previously, NIS pension payments were made on the first Monday of every month.
President Irfaan Ali said a circular has already been dispatched with the directives to allow the two payments to be made on the same day.
The President explained that the idea for the two payments to be made on the same day, was made by a senior citizen during a recent walkabout in Georgetown. He said he immediately took the idea on board.
“We are committed to ensuring we create the best possible environment for every citizen of our country. We are committed to ensuring that we create the best positive opportunities for every single citizen of our country,” the President said.
According to President Ali, the government is prepared to listen to every citizen and ensure that their ideas are implanted, where practicable. He said his administration wants to address real issues affecting persons and communities and will intensify ground work to listen to the concerns of the people.
