President Irfaan Ali has indicated that while he is not fully informed of all the details surrounding the accusations of improper conduct and indecent proposals by his Minister of Local Government Nigel Dharamlall, he believes that the young woman who has made the allegations, should file a Police complaint so that the claims could be investigated.
“There is a procedure in dealing with these matters. If I am to look at social media every day, I can’t run an operation based on social media. There is a procedure in dealing with these matters. So those procedures have to be utilised and followed. If someone has an allegation against somebody in whatever shape and form, they have to report those allegations”, the President said while speaking on the sidelines of an event on Wednesday.
According to the President, the Minister has made accusations of his own and has even claimed that his phone was misplaced.
The President said because of all of the allegations involved, those allegations should be taken to the Police authority since he does not plan being a Judge on the issue.
The mother of the young lady who has made the allegations against Minister Dharamlall in a Facebook post said the President needs to act on the issue.
The young woman in a number of Facebook posts detailed her alleged interactions with the Minister on social media after she followed one of his social media posts. She claimed that the Minister started to send her private messages and made a number of indecent proposals while alleging that he sent nude photos and videos allegedly of himself to her.
Minister Dharamlall has not responded to the claims, but the Opposition has already called for a full and thorough probe since his alleged behavior could be seen as predatory.
