PNCR commits to standing in defence of Guyana’s territorial integrity -Norton

The General Council meeting of the People’s National Congress Reform, ended on Sunday evening with the party’s full commitment to counter threats and aggressions from neighboring Venezuela against Guyana in the ongoing border controversy.

In a statement, the People’s National Congress said its Leader, Mr. Aubrey Norton, has pledged that the party will stand in the forefront against any and all threats to Guyana’s territorial integrity.

Mr. Norton emphasized that in the face of the Venezuelan acts of aggression, the Party needs to stand on the forefront of the efforts to defend the country’s national security and territorial integrity.

During an appearance on the party’s weekly television programme, “Nation Watch”, the PNC Reform Leader said his party is ready and willing to work to develop a comprehensive programme to address issues related to the border controversy and keeping citizens informed.

With regards to fear being expressed by residents of the bordering communities, Mr. Norton said there is a need for a full intelligence led operation and for more security support from the military.

The Guyana Defence Force has been sending more soldiers to the bordering communities in wake up of a build up of Venezuelan military personnel on their side of the border.

The PNC Reform Leader said the Opposition will continue to engage the Government and lend support to its efforts to address the rising tension owing to the controversy.
