Police and WIN protesters in afternoon clash outside Magistrates’ Court

Police with riot gear were called out this afternoon outside the Magistrates’ Court to quell a protest by supporters of the Opposition Leader and the WIN party who were demanding his release from Prison.

The group of person gathered outside the Courthouse since early this morning as Mohamed made his appearance.  The crowd got uneasy after realizing that Mohamed was being taken back to prison this afternoon where he remains on remand.

Some of the protesters pushed down the Police barricade forcing the Police to fire tear gas and pellets at the protesting crowd.

Many of the persons ran in the direction of the Stabroek market, and moments later a small fire was seen at the front of the market.

The Guyana Police Force has warned that riotous behaviour will not be encouraged and persons will face public terror charges for any illegal action.
