Police arrest ex-boyfriend in maid-of-honour murder

Police investigators have arrested the ex-boyfriend of the Sophia woman who was found murdered after going missing on the eve of her sister’s wedding.

The ex-boyfriend who lives in Mahdia was arrested following the discovery of the body two days ago.

Police sources have indicated that phone records show that the ex-boyfriend was the only person in contact with the young woman, leading up to her disappearance.

The man had contacted the mother of one, Simone Hackett, and told her that he had sent a package for their young son.

She left to uplift the package but never returned home. Her partly decomposed body was found in a Cummings lodge trench on Tuesday morning by two teenage boys who were on their way to school.

A cutlass was found under the body. The woman died from multiple chop wounds and a slash to the neck.

The couple had been in a bitter dispute since they broke up. The ex-boyfriend wanted full custody of their child but the young woman objected and they had agreed that she would allow the child to be with him during school holidays.

Family members are begging for justice. Charges could be filed against the ex-boyfriend within days once the evidence points to him.
