The Guyana Police Force on Monday filed a murder charge against taxi driver, Ranachal Singh, after he was fingered in allegedly assisting in the dumping of the body of Sophia resident, Simone Hackett, after she was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend in the backseat of Singh’s taxi.
The ex-boyfriend, Clevaughn Hamilton, was charged with the murder on Friday.
Investigators launched a search for Singh after his blood stained car was found in Mahdia where Hamilton reportedly went after allegedly stabbing the woman to death. He was arrested by the Police over the weekend and he took them to the area where he allegedly assisted in dumping the woman’s body.
The prosecution’s case is that Hamilton hired Singh and used his taxi to pick the woman up at the University of Guyana entrance two Saturdays ago. Singh allegedly continued driving the car even after Hamilton began stabbing the woman in the back seat.
Singh then drove the car, to the Cummings Lodge area where he allegedly assisted Hamilton in dumping the woman from the vehicle.
The young lady who should have been the maid-of-honour for her sister’s wedding the following day, was never seen again until her partly decomposed body was found in a trench in the nearby Cummings Lodge area three days later.
The ex-boyfriend reportedly confessed to the murder after his cellphone records tied him to contacting the woman just before her disappearance. As investigations moved in to Mahdia, they discovered the car with blood stains on the inside.
Singh allegedly attempted to get some of the stains out using bleach.
Both men have been remanded to prison.
