The passenger of a Swift taxi service car who allegedly stabbed the driver to death during a row over the taxi fare, has been charged for murder.
48-year-old Kwayana Fernandes appeared in Court this morning and was charged for the murder of taxi driver Owen Lynch.
The accused was not required to enter a plea to the indictable murder charge.
The tragic incident occurred on the 6th August in the Mocha community. Fernandes had reportedly hired the taxi to take him to the area from Sophia.
Once there, he refused to pay the fare that the driver was demanding since the base had reportedly given him another fare. As he left the car, the driver charged after him and reportedly attacked him with an ice-pick.
The man responded by pulling out a knife and stabbing the taxi driver repeatedly. The man explained to investigators that he was defending himself. He was still arrested and charged for murder.
The case will continue on the 27th of August.
