Police in Region 4 will be having a greater presence in several communities that are considered “at-risk” communities to interact more with citizens and especially the youth population.

Commander of Police Regional Division 4 ‘A’, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Simon Mc Bean said officers are already on the ground in those communities having one-on-one discussions with residents to ascertain what are some of the challenges that the communities are facing.

“As we speak, there are efforts being made to have our scout groups and our youth groups active in all our communities, especially places like Albouystown, Agricola, Sophia, Tiger Bay etc,” the Commander pointed out.

Mr. McBean explained that it is important to have influential persons within the communities on board to assist the Police Force in its quest to create good community-Police relations.

“So we have been actively working also with reglious leaders within this community. I have had personal engagements with several religious leaders who has come on board and has been playing a great part in supporting us throughout this venture,” he noted.

According to the Assistant Commissioner, there are already some challenges in terms of meeting specific target groups in those communities at specific times.

“We are getting there in the sense of finding that common time that we can successfully meet, what we have been doing is we have been meeting persons as they are available at that moment, and that is the reason why piggybacking on the religious communities and other community leaders so they can help us in organizing—because what we are trying to have is a working group within each community and make decisions as it related to improving the quality of life within those communities,” the Commander said.
