A 58-year-old porter from the Pomeroon area lost his life yesterday morning when the motor tractor and trailer that he was riding on toppled and pinned him.
A Police statement said the accident occurred at around 7:30 on Wednesday morning along the Ampa trail, East Bank Essequibo.
The tractor and trailer were being driven by a 24-year-old Parika man. At the time of the accident, the trailer was loaded with wallaba posts. The porter was sitting on top of the stacked posts.
The Police report said the trailer dropped into a hole and its weight sent it toppling over.
The porter got pinned under the trailer with the posts and had to be pulled from under the wreckage.
He was taken to the West Demerara Hospital where Doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The Police investigation has also revealed that the tractor was unregistered. The probe continues as the driver remains in custody.
