The incumbent People’s Progressive Party on Monday afternoon denied that it was preparing to challenge the results of the elections should those results be unfavorable to the party.
However, party officials raised allegations of persons voting multiple times and being able to remove the ink which was used to stain their fingers. The Guyana Elections Commission has denied reports of any such occurrence.
Executive Member of the PPP, Dr. Frank Anthony told media operatives that the Party was pleased with the voter turnout but said reports were received that employees at some polling stations were slothful which frustrated voters.
He also claimed that persons were turned away from polling stations were misguided.
Anthony expressed concern also about the number of person who were turning up to polling stations without their ID cards.
According to Anthony, such incidents are being compiled and will be presented to GECOM for investigation.
Once a person is registered, they must be allowed to vote once they present themselves to polling agents and those agents are satisfied based on checks of their documents that the voter is who he/she professes to be. That document carries a photograph and other identification information for every registered voter.
The PPP does not believe expressing its worry could cause any disquiet. The governing party had agents all across the country observing the electoral process.
