Granger rescues confrontational Kwame McCoy from hostile crowd outside polling station

Presidential Candidate of the APNU+AFC coalition David Granger was forced to head down to a polling station at the St. Sidwell’s Primary School to allow Candidate for the People’s Progressive Party, Kwame McCoy to leave the area.

Scores of persons gathered outside the school compound on Monday afternoon after receiving information that McCoy was visiting the polling station and may be up to “mischief”.

All political candidates area allowed to visit polling stations to observe the process on elections day.

McCoy who has been very confrontational on the campaign trail and his television talk show, was not allowed to leave the compound until Granger arrived and urged the crowd to leave him alone and allow him to leave the premises.

McCoy hurried out as Granger and other senior members of the coalitions shielded him.

The People’s Progressive Party Civic reported on Monday afternoon that McCoy was seeking medical attention at a city hospital after being physically attacked during his visit to the school.

The PPP Civic could not provide details in relation to the McCoy altercation but raised a series of irregularities relating to the electoral process. This is the only reported incident of physical violence against a Candidate.
