The People’s Progressive Party this afternoon said it has taken note of the report on the vote recount submitted by the Chief Elections Officer and it is clear in its opinion that CEO Keith Lowenfield “violated” the recount order by offering an opinion of the observation reports and probing the claims contained in the observation reports.
The PPP said based on the order, “Lowenfield has no power or authority or any mandate to offer a view, opinion or judgement of any type, either in the
Observation Report or the Matrices to be tabulated. As regards the Observation Report, his singular duty was to summarize the various Observation Reports and in respect of the Matrices, his sole duty was to aggregate the totals in the Matrices”.
In his report, Mr. Lowenfield highlighted the various anomalies that were highlighted in the Observation reports on the recount and declared that it cannot be ascertained that the results were free and credible.
But according to the PPP, by offering details of the claims and probing the claims, the Chief Elections Officer has made himself ” investigator, Judge and executioner and made conclusive findings, in respect of the wild, reckless and baseless allegations made by APNU+AFC”
Throughout the recount process, the APNU+AFC has been pointing to issues related to the credibility of the elections.
The PPP is of the view that Lowenfield has acted ultra vires, in excess of and without authority, in violation of natural justice, in abrogation of the
separation of powers doctrine, unlawfully, unconstitutionally and the
pronouncements that he has made are certainly null, void and of no effect.
The party also said that his pronouncements and tabulations bear a striking resemblance to the contentions and calculations of the APNU+AFC and that has not gone unnoticed.
“Worse yet, Lowenfield has indicted his own elections of which he was the Chief Elections Officer (CEO) and has in effect, conceded that he has committed Misfeasance in Public Office” the PPP said.
The party which maintains that the recount has pointed to its victory has indicated that it will keep the country updated on its position on the Lowenfield report.
