Prime suspect in illegal aircraft probe surrenders to Police

The Guyana Police Force has announced that the prime suspect in the probe into the discovery of that illegal aircraft at Sante Fe, North Rupununi is now in custody.

Although not releasing his name, the Police announced that the man was handed over to the Police in the company of his Attorney.

“He is in custody of a team of detectives led by a Senior Officer who travelled to Lethem two days ago to receive him”, the Police statement said.

The suspect who is a businessman and who resides at Tabinga, Lethem will be brought to the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters for questioning.

The Beechcraft King Air plane was discovered back in August of this year during an exercise in the area by the Police.

Persons were reportedly spotted running away from the scene as the lawmen closed in.  It has since been determined that there might have been some collusion between the men who flew the plane into Guyana and some lawmen on the ground.

The aircraft was found with a quantity of dry ration, medical supplies, gents clothing and footwear, two hand-held radios, flashlights, cellular phones and an identification card amongst other items.

The cleared area where the aircraft landed was over one mile long and about fifty feet wide. A number of persons have since been charged in connection with setting up that illegal runway.
