Ramjattan rips PPP Manifesto as all emptiness

“They have failed to deliver on reduced taxation, they have failed to hold Local Government Elections in 20 years, the fibre optic cable project has been a $3.6B failure, they have failed to establish the Public Procurement Commission, they have failed the sugar industry, they have failed the rice industry,” Ramjattan explained.

Ramjattan rips PPP Manifesto as all emptiness

The recently released 2015 elections manifesto by the ruling People’ s Progressive Party has been slammed by APNU+AFC Coalition candidate Khemraj Ramjattan who regarded the document as a “compendium of emptiness.”

Ramjattan, who is also Leader of the Alliance for Change said the PPP Civic’s proposal to take Guyana forward over the next five years is characterized by hollowness, empty promises, rhetoric and gimmickry.

A draft of the coalition’s manifesto was leaked last week and while it is yet to announce an official launch date, Ramjattan is contending that the PPP Civic’s vision document is no match for the APNU+AFC’s manifesto.

He said the PPP has a record of outstanding failure.

In a statement on Sunday, Ramjattan also said that the “cheap talk” about what the PPP Civic will do about corruption bares them naked.

In the face of these criticisms among others, the PPP/C challenged critics who have described its 2015 manifesto as “old wine in new bottle”, but in the process admitted that the document resurrects promises that were made during the 2011 and even the 2006 elections.

General Secretary Clement Rohee defended the document as a continuation of the 23 year old administration’s development plan.

“…But if you didn’t deliver something and you want it living don’t you have to bring it back?” Rohee questioned at a Monday morning press conference.

To this end, Ramjattan has warned that the people of Guyana will no longer be fooled by the PPP. “It is time for change and this PPP/C government has just a few more days in office before they face the formal rejection from the people at the ballot box,” Ramjattan declared.

Rohee is blaming the parliamentary opposition for the failure of several of its projects, saying they were not realized because of the opposition’s nonsupport which was premised on the need for more transparency and accountability.

Rohee says the Party has brought back these things with the expectation that it will win overwhelmingly “so that when we go to Parliament we are not faced with the same hocus pocus situation.”

But Ramjattan has argued that even with the failed promises aside, the PPP/C is flagrant in the manner in which it conducts its business. He pointed to the scandalous use of taxpayer’s monies for personal vanity medical procedures to the tune of millions of dollars; the verbal abuse of women by ministers of government and President Ramotar wearing a money mala while addressing poor people at a rally recently.

Ramjattan now assures that the coalition’s manifesto, to be officially launched in coming days, is thorough and represents an all-encompassing plan for the real development of Guyana which caters to all Guyanese.
