Regional Investigators arrive to probe murders of Henry cousins and Haresh Singh

Three weeks after the murders of teenage cousins, Joel and Isaiah Henry and 17-year-old Haresh Singh in the West Coast Berbice area, a five-member team of Investigators from the Regional Security System, (RSS) has arrived in Guyana to assist the Guyana Police Force with the probe.

In a statement, the Police Force said the Regional Security team is being led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police and has also brought together Officials from countries within the Regional Investigative Management Systems (RIMS).

The visit is as a result of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Guyana and The Caribbean Community Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (CARICOM IMPACS).

The Regional Law Enforcement Officials met today with the Police Commissioner, the Crime Chief and other investigating ranks and will likely get down to work from tomorrow.

The bodies of cousins, Isaiah and Joel Henry were found mutilated and badly chopped one day after they went missing. The two were last seen heading into the backlands of #3 village to pick coconuts. Their bodies were found in the backdam of Cotton Tree on the same West Coast of Berbice.

The gruesome murder of the cousins led to widespread protests that became violent along the West Coast of Berbice.

On the same day that the post mortem examination was carried out on the bodies of the cousins, the body of 17-year-old Haresh Singh was found in the #3 village backdam with a wound to his head. He was last seen alive the same morning as he headed to a family’s farm on a motorcycle.

The murders have triggered calls for peace across the country. The families of the dead teens were visited by political leaders and other supporters.

There have been calls for a complete and thorough investigation of the murders.
