A 35-year-old man from the village of Tabatinga in the Rupununi region was arrested just after midnight on Wednesday after a large quantity of marijuana and cocaine was found in his possession.
The Guyana Police Force announced the arrest of businessman Duane Johnson in a statement today.
Johnson was driving a Nissan Juke motor vehicle in the town of Lethem when he was stopped by a Police patrol and a search of his vehicle unearthed the illegal items in the trunk.
The Police said a total of 13 parcels were discovered in the man’s vehicle. Eleven of the parcels contained marijuana while the remaining two were found with cocaine.
In total, the unemployed man was found with 18 pounds of marijuana and just over 2 pounds of cocaine.
He was immediately arrested and escorted to the Lethem Police station with the illegal drugs.
His reputed wife and young baby who were also in the vehicle were not kept in Police custody.
Johnson is to face drug trafficking charges soon.
