School closure to continue into Easter break

In a statement, the Ministry said that considering the current situation with regard to the coronavirus, schools which were closed from last week will be closed for an additional week (March 30, 2020 - April 03, 2020) and that will lead into the Easter Term vacation which will run from the 6th - 17th April.

School closure to continue into Easter break

The Ministry of Education has announced that schools will remain closed for the next three weeks, taking the closure into the Easter break.

In a statement, the Ministry said that considering the current situation with regard to the coronavirus, schools which were closed from last week will be closed for an additional week (March 30, 2020 – April 03, 2020) and that will lead into the Easter Term vacation which will run from the 6th – 17th April.

The commencement of the third term for the current academic year remains as scheduled, April 20, 2020, the Ministry said.

The Education Ministry is still to make a decision on the sitting of the Grade Six Assessment examinations.

The examinations were scheduled for the 8th and 9th April but those dates were postponed and new dates are still to be announced.

As part of Guyana’s efforts to cut back on social interactions, the Ministry of Education announced the early closure of schools. The Ministry has also indicated that extra lessons should not be conducted during the closures.
