The Guyana National Road Safety Council has joined hands with the Kronoco Safety Solution company and ExxonMobil in a joint campaign to promote safer use of the country’s roads.
Speaking at the launching of the initiative this morning, the CEO of Kronoco Solution Latoya Jack said the organisation was moved by the tragic death of the young girl in a road accident at Agricola a few months ago.
She said the “Share the Road” campaign will focus on the way forward.
Ms. Jack said better use of the roads must be encouraged at all times.
“In some areas, we have a divide as to who is responsible on the road, the fact of the matter is that it is everyone’s responsibility on the road and should take that responsibility very seriously,” Ms Jack noted.
Coordinator of the Guyana National Road Safety Association, Ramona Doorgen, said indeed road safety is everyone’s business and citizens need to remember that. She added that “road safety is not just central, it’s decentralized it’s all over the country, it’s not just for one set of people its for everybody, it’s not a race thing it’s a humanitarian effort, so, when we look at road safety is our way of showing our humanitarian effort”
The “ Share the Road” Campaign is set to run until the end of the year and it will see the Kronoco Safety Solution company coordinating a number of road safety events and gathering data on road safety issues in Guyana.
The Exxon company has pledged full sponsorship of the activities.
