Sixteen men were today charged for allegedly participating in riotous behaviour.

The sixteen men appeared at the Cove and John Magistrates’ Court this morning. Fifteen of the sixteen men pleaded not guilty to the charge and were granted bail in the sum of $15,000. The sixteenth man, Andrew Sumner pleaded guilty and was fined $20,000.

Two 18-year-olds were among those charged. The charges were related to yesterday’s protest action on the East Coast of Demerara which saw roads being blocked and stalls at the Mon Repos market being looted by some persons who were part of the protest.

8. Seon Austin, 31-year-old male of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.
9. Quice Lawrence, 40-year-old male of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.
10. Winston James, 23-year-old male of Victoria, East Coast Demerara.
11. Andrew Sumner, 59-year-old male of Victoria, East Coast Demerara.
