Still no sighting of Mazaruni Prison escapees; Prison Officers being questioned

More than 24hrs since four high profile prisoners escaped from the Mazaruni jail, search teams are still spread out through the Essequibo region and there has been no sighting of the prisoners.

Acting Prison Director Niclon Elliott told News Source this afternoon that a number of search teams have been dispatched to various nearby communities.

He also confirmed that all of the Prison officers who were on duty at the time of the escape are being questioned by the Police and are not on the job at this time.

Police investigators are following a report that a farmer in the Mazaruni community close to the prison has reported that his boat and outboard engine were both stolen yesterday.

It is suspected that the four escapees might have been the ones to cart off the boat.

The authorities continue to ask for anyone who may know the whereabouts of the escapees, Imran Ramsaywack, Samuel Gouveia, Ryan Jones and Kenrick Lyte to make contact with the nearest police station or call 911.

All four escapees were behind bars for killings, with two of them being sentenced to death.

In a statement, the Guyana Police Force issued an appeal to members of the public, relatives and friends of the escapees to contact the Police with any information about their whereabouts.

The Police Force is also calling on the escapees themselves to surrender and avoid any confrontation with law enforcement since that could result in the use of force.
