The Father of one of the four prison escapees who are still on the run has been remanded to jail after being charged with the harboring of the escapees.
60-year-old boat Captain, Ralph Jones appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Vreed en Hoop Magistrates’ Court today and was remanded to prison until the 5th March, when he will make his next Court appearance.
Jones of 4th Avenue Bartica is accused of assisting the four prison escapees to continue on with their escape after they turned up at his home hours after their escape from the Mazaruni jail.
He is facing four separate charges which are all indictable.
Attorney at law, Adrian Thompson, who is representing the accused told the Court that his client’s son who is one of the escapees showed up at his home with the other 3 convicts and demanded food and money.
Thompson said his client was fearful for his life and was forced to offer assistance to the men.
According to the Police, the man told investigators that in the early hours of last Wednesday morning, his son and the other three prison escapees showed up at his Bartica home.
He admitted that he provided each of the escapees with a change of clothing and dumped the clothes that they changed behind his house.
The investigating team found a bag containing the clothes as they visited the man’s residence. In addition to the dumped clothing, the investigators also found, pillows and pillowcases, a bottle of red star rub, and other items.
The authorities continue to ask for anyone who may know the whereabouts of the escapees, Imran Ramsaywack, Samuel Gouveia, Ryan Jones and Kenrick Lyte to make contact with the nearest police station or call 911.
