The murder took place in the Cubacalli, Waini area and the suspect has been on the run for the past two decades.

21 years after a woman in the North West District was murdered, the man who is believed to responsible for that murder has finally been caught. 

The Guyana Police Force today announced the arrest of Philbert Thomas who was wanted for the 1998 murder of his then reputed wife, 23-year-old Viola Thomas.

The murder took place in the Cubacalli, Waini area and the suspect has been on the run for the past two decades.

He was recently charged in connection with an assault matter and it was then that the mother of the dead woman recognized him and made a report to the Police. 

Once the man’s identity was verified, he was charged with the murder and told that he will be making a Court appearance soon.  It is reported that he has since admitted to the murder.

Advice was sought from the Director of Public Prosecutions and the accused will appear in Court on Monday to face the murder charge as the investigators turn the page on the cold case.
