In 2021, the US State Department in its Trafficking- in-Persons report said the Government of Guyana meets the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking, noting that the government continues to demonstrate serious and sustained efforts to fight trafficking in persons and assist the victims.

Suspected trafficking in persons ring being probed in West Demerara

The Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation into a suspected trafficking-in-persons ring after 15 foreign women, suspected to be Venezuelans, were found in a West Coast Demerara nightclub.

In a statement today, the Ministry of Home Affairs said the discovery was made on the 25th of June during a cordon and search operation at Club Plan B in Stewartville. The 15 foreign women were all interviewed by the Police investigators.

Three other persons have since been detained by the Police for suspected trafficking-in-persons.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the Police will continue to closely monitor nightclubs over suspected trafficking cases.
